Jacaranda is Perth's iconic spring tree - the blue-purple flower clouds that appear in October and November on bare branches before the leaves emerge are one of the most recognisable seasonal events in the city. At full flower a mature Jacaranda is a genuinely spectacular sight: a large, spreading canopy covered almost entirely in tubular, lavender-blue flowers with almost no green visible. It grows to around 8-15m with a broad, spreading, semi-weeping canopy that provides generous summer shade after the flowering season. Full sun. Well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established. Plant where the fallen flowers on paving are manageable - they are abundant.
