Cercis Canadensis Forest Pansy

Cercis Canadensis Forest Pansy

Forest Pansy Redbud is one of the most ornamentally distinguished small to medium deciduous trees available. In early spring, vivid magenta-pink flowers appear in dense clusters directly on the bare branches and trunk - a botanical phenomenon called cauliflory that is striking and unusual. Then deep burgundy-red heart-shaped leaves emerge and hold through summer, turning amber and red in autumn before dropping. Three distinct seasons of ornamental interest from the same tree. It grows to around 5-8m with a spreading, open habit. More suited to Perth's Hills and cooler southern suburbs where winter chill produces the best flowering. Full sun to part shade. Well-drained soil.
